Seaports form a network that connects the world. Flows of people, goods and ideas move across the oceans. The history of Gothenburg and its port have been formed in this way through contact with the outside world.
The port has been a central meeting place for generations of Gothenburg’s citizens. The city has been shaped by movements of people – sailors, shipyard workers, emigrants and merchants. Some come to stay, others travel on.
